Dr. Thornock, DDS
Your Bainbridge Island Dentist
I love being a dentist! When I started out in dentistry I really loved the satisfaction I got from sculpting a new tooth out of one that was broken or diseased. It felt great being able to fix something that was broken. As the years pass, I have come to enjoy other things even more. I have gained a much greater sense of how important our mouths and teeth are for the well being of our health and our lives in general. In helping hundreds of different patients over the years, I have seen how teeth problems can affect peoples’ lives in so many ways. Missing, painful, or diseased teeth, the appearance of teeth, and a variety of other issues can literally change how well we eat, how comfortable we feel about ourselves or how we interact with others, as well as affecting our overall health. I still enjoy the challenge of fixing teeth; but even more nowadays, I enjoy the time I get to spend with my patients, and the relationships we develop. I want my patients to be proud of their smiles, and I am here to do whatever it takes to make that possible. First, I strive to understand what my patient’s goals are, whether they want to improve, fix, or maintain their teeth and smile. Then,I work with my patients to find the best solution for them. Ultimately, I want to help people love their own smile, to help them smile often, and to keep them smiling for years to come.
Personal and Interests
Many patients have commented on the calming and compassionate manner with which I deliver care. I am very good at helping fearful or anxious patients feel comfortable, and I can communicate dental conditions and treatment options simply and effectively. My personal life experience has helped me to feel friendly with people from all walks of life.
As for me, I have a variety of interests. I grew up as a Boy Scout, and came to love the outdoors. I love hiking and camping, and the beauty of nature, especially as we find in the Northwest. I love spending time with my wife, and am active in my church and other service organizations. I enjoy movies and reading. I like running, swimming and weight lifting.
Academic Training and Clinical Experience
I was born and raised in eastern Washington and I received my dental training at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, Class of 2011. Since then, I have been practicing in a private practice setting and have also completed more than one hundred hours of continuing education. The first practice I joined as an associate was Highlands West Dental, located in Shoreline, WA. There, I received valuable experience in all aspects of general and family dentistry. Following a brief year there, I joined the practice of one my dental school classmates as a partner. While at Comfort Dental, located in Lakewood, WA, I gained extensive experience in oral surgery, endodontics, pediatrics, and all elements of restorative dentistry including cosmetic and implant dentistry. In the late summer of 2014, I took over the practice of Dr. David F. Spooner, located here on Bainbridge Island.
My training and clinical experience has prepared me to treat the dental needs of children, adults and the elderly, as well as many persons with disabilities. I am able to provide excellent comprehensive dental care, including dental emergencies. I am experienced in and comfortable with all areas of general dentistry including fillings, crowns, extractions, implants, root canals, and dentures, as well as cosmetic procedures such as veneers, bleaching and more.
